CIURI design Marco Piva selected for the ADI Design Index 2011.

The Italian Permanent Design Observatory, ADI, has selected LITHEA : the basin CIURI, design byMarco Piva, has been appointed for the ADI Design Index 2011.

A total of 150 experts, organized into territorial, thematic and final selection commissions, have chosen this first cycle of products, from which the next Compasso d’Oro and Premio dei Premi  will be selected. Among these projects, three deemed particularly worthy due to their innovative character, will also be selected and awarded by ADI, Confindustria (Confederation of Italian Industry) and CNR (National Research Agency).

Ciuri is marble sink that can be freely installed, characterized by its cantilevered structure and innovative drainage system. Its curves resemble the shape of flower, hence the name (“ciuri” is “flowers in Sicilian dialect), while the natural imperfections and the non-uniform structure of the material make each piece unique. Sophisticated treatment processes have enabled the realization of solid and void, patterns, ripples and engravings, satin and sand-blasted finishes that modulate the surfaces creating contrasts between matt and shiny areas. The uniqueness of the colour and the pattern of the veining from the quarrying, combined with the textures achieved using modern technology give Ciuri and added value of unrepeatability despite being an industrial product.
